Boring Meta AI

WhatsApp has a new feature called “Meta AI” which is a Llama LLM model. The AI can be used in a chat manner (you can archive or delete the chat) to ask questions (just like ChatGPT and others). It can also be triggered via WhatsApp search. This feature is so underwhelming. Not the way I had expected it to be integrated. I had expected it to be way more similar to my “What if?” series:

Seeing the update I wish for another feature for all of those apps that now integrate LLMs: simply be able to plug in my own model or be able to provide an API Key to directly communicate with whatever model I want to use. So many indie devs and developer focused companies are doing this.

Not adding the main feature, i.e. autocompletion of chat messages or even generating whole messages, let’s me wonder if they’re afraid of releasing such a “disruptive” feature as it would divide people in two groups: those who would say Meta is killing personal messaging interaction, and those who would say that they love the feature and can now reply faster to messages.
